Country File Canada: A Hub for Project Freight in Renewable Energy, Aerospace, Mining, and Infrastructure.

Canada has emerged as a major hub for project freight in various industries, including renewable energy, aerospace, mining, infrastructure, and agriculture. As a member of the Project Freight Network (PFN) network organization, we at GTI Group have witnessed firsthand the growth of these industries and the significant role of Canada in the global supply chains, says Mr. Kevin McNicol, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). He continues to explain….

Renewable Energy

In recent years, Canada has made significant strides in renewable energy, particularly in wind energy. We work closely with industry giants Siemens and GE, as well as Marmen and Gamesa, significant suppliers with facilities in North America. We have witnessed the sourcing of most components from within the continent, highlighting Canada’s importance in the region’s renewable energy supply chain.

Aerospace

Canada has established itself as a crucial player in the aerospace industry, with deep involvement in Airbus and Boeing. In the past, the fuselage for C-series planes was produced in Meaulte, France, and transported to Mirabel, Quebec, before onward forwarding to Downsview, Ontario, where the Bombardier facility is located. However, the production has now shifted to Mirabel, Quebec, where Stelia/Aerolia, an Airbus affiliate, produces the fuselages. As a leading project freight forwarding company, we have transported the machinery required for fabricating the fuselages from France to Mirabel, Quebec. In addition, we work with CAE, which produces full-motion simulators, and other aerospace manufacturers such as Rolls Royce, Lockheed Martine, and GE.

Mining

Historically, mining was not a high-focus industry for us. Still, since early 2022, we have been working with existing EPCs such as Hatch and Bechtel to further engage mining products directly with mining companies. This is a longer sales cycle, but we are making good inroads.

Infrastructure

Project control in Canada’s infrastructure industry is often directed by an EPC, and we work with many EPCs in this sector. As a leading project freight forwarding company, we ensure that infrastructure products are delivered on time and within budget, which is crucial for the success of any project.

Agriculture

We deal with various agriculture equipment manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Hitachi, John Deere, and others. However, most freight by ocean is controlled at the source in Asia and the UK. Freight is then marshaled in staging facilities in the US, primarily Peoria, Illinois, before we handle the products inland for Canada and the US.

In summary, Canada has emerged as a vital hub for project freight forwarding in various industries, including renewable energy, aerospace, mining, infrastructure, and agriculture. As a member of the PFN network organization, we are proud to be part of this growth and are committed to providing our clients with the best services in project freight forwarding.
